Name: Investigating the diffusion component of the phenyacetylene hydrogenation reaction in Pd/TiO2

Description: Liquid phase heterogeneous catalysis makes up one the largest proportions of chemical industry. The catalysed phenyacetelene hydrogenation reaction is of great interest as it is used the the production of styrene which is an important chemical in the polymer industry. The activity and selectivity of the heterogeneous reaction is in many ways influenced by the diffusion processes that occur within the catalyst to and from the active site. Mesoporous titania possess regular well defined pores through which the dynamics of the industrially relevant sorbates can be measured. It is hoped that the dynamics that can be measured in this proposal will lead to further understanding of liquid phase heterogeneous catalysis.
